Pace Yourself Through These Mountains

Pace Yourself Through These Mountains

I sat down at my MacBook this morning and just stared at my lock screen for a moment.

“Pace yourself through these mountains.”

Tiger print background.

Boy, oh boy… these are some mountains, I smirked to myself.

Since launching BPS, I’ve been steadily whittling away at a task list that somehow triples every time I open it. Complete one task, add three more with the newest information. There’s been a constant feeling of, I’ll come back to that later and fix it, but for now let’s let it ride.

Progress, not perfection.

At this point the to-do list has grown into a formidable beast that breathes fire and seems to have a particular appetite for short, mouthy women.

Grateful for whatever past version of me chose that screensaver, I sat down and reaffirmed my day.

Today will not be dedicated to clearing tasks.

Despite the chores.
Despite the work.
Despite the school assignments, the house, the pets, and the thousand little responsibilities that come with building something meaningful.

Instead, I’m meeting a friend for a yoga class taught by another friend.

I’m going to wear my Sthira joggers. I might do a little work afterward, but I’m not chasing the end of the list for once.

Instead I’ll do a little meal prep.

Then I’m heading to a lecture at IUK with my aerospace-obsessed teenager.

Sthira is a Sanskrit term meaning steadiness, stability, firmness, and effort.

Not frantic motion.

Not constant pushing.

Steady effort.

Today I’m choosing intentional rest.
Things that feed me.
Relationships that co-regulate me.

Because if I don’t pace myself through these mountains, I run the risk of burning out before I finish this beautiful journey.

And the whole point of building something meaningful is to still have the strength to enjoy the view when you reach the next ridge.

If you’re climbing your own mountains right now, give yourself the same grace.

Move steadily.

Rest when needed.

And wear things that move with you while you’re doing it.

Because strength isn’t built in sprints.

It’s built in the steady climb.
