BPS COMFY Photoshoot | Community, Confidence & Real Bodies
The Black Polish Society COMFY photoshoot was hosted by Freedom Strength & Fitness yesterday. Twelve people showed up and modeled the COMFY and Sthira lines, despite anxiety. It’s both humbling and inspiring to watch people overcome that moment of self-consciousness. You can watch it play out on people’s faces. They’ve arrived; they are no longer in the clothes they picked out, and now they have to pretend there’s no camera. It’s absolutely unnerving. I’ve been on the other side of the camera — it’s not for the faint of heart.
Yet, they persisted.
We finished the day with everyone dancing across the room. We laughed until our bellies hurt, long-missed friends were reunited, and new friends were made. The Breathing Room Wellness Center was also on site, helping measure models and capture content throughout the day. We ate a lot of street tacos from El Rancho.
This is exactly why BPS was founded. To show people one: that they deserve to feel good about themselves, and two: that when we come together, everything is a little bit easier.
I will make social posts and send private messages thanking everyone who volunteered, helped, hosted, and coordinated this week. But to everyone who was there: thank you, thank you very much.
You are what makes a society.
